WBC Awards 2025

The 2025 Presentation Dinner evening was enjoyed by members and guests who saw a good number of tournament winners and finalists collect their trophies and certificates, all presented by our President Glyn Larcombe.
Club captain Alan Dell was our master of ceremonies for the evening and announced the recipients of the club trophies.  He did comment that this year there were not any multiple winners as we had seen over the last few years, “perhaps because there are more new members, and winners are more spread out.”

The competition winners who were present to collect their trophies are pictured below as (l-r)

Announcing the award, club chairman Fred Parsons said that Alan Dell has
been a true servant of the club over many years – Alan claret award xand particularly someone who readily steps up when a need arises.

Alan took over as club captain some years ago to fill that post and all that it entails ….....
and more recently he volunteered for the unenviable role of club Safeguarding Officer (something our governing bodies required).

There was a floral gift presentation to Hilary Doughton in appreciation
for organising the dinner and the table decorations, especially for her creative lantPD flowers 25erns!

A raffle then took place organised by Hilary and Val, with around 30 prizes this year to help raise funds for the club.

WBC Awards 2022

The 2022 Presentation Dinner evening saw a good number of tournament winners and finalists collect their trophies and certificates, all presented by our President Glyn Larcombe.

Topping the awards were the three double trophy winners -
Val Lambert, Gregg Scott and Martin Wilson.

Val Lambert has become a real record-breaker as, being victorious in the Ladies Championship Cup this year, it meant it was the fifth year running she had taken this title.  Not only that, Val has won the last three Ladies League titles – giving her a tremendous treble of doubles! That’s special!

Collecting her certificates as Runner-up for both the Ladies League and Ladies Cup was Janet Cross, who gave Val Lambert a close contest in the cup final.

Gregg Scott was back on the podium with a double. He collected the Men’s Cup, while Trevor Woodham picked up the runners-up prize.
Gregg also won the Pairs League title with partner Ian Smith,
which this year was revamped as a day tournament.
Len Carlton and Colin Hood took the Pairs Runners-up prize, having made it a very close contest.

Third double winner was Martin Wilson who gained his first club trophies when collecting the Men’s League trophy, in which Colin Hood was Runner-up – also the Pairs Cup with partner Mike McLachlan.  Pairs Cup Runners-up were Angela Teale & Colin Hood.

The Village Trust Winter Cup 21-22 was claimed by Len Carlton & Trevor Woodham, with Maureen Vizer & Gregg Scott taking the Runners-up prize.

The After two runners-up prizes, Janet Cross did secure some silverware  – the Memorial Pairs Trophy along with partner Alastair Gibson – this being his first trophy success at the club.

The President’s Cup / Claret Jug was awarded to Ian Smith. Announcing the award for outstanding services, club captain Alan Dell said that Ian, as well as being vice-captain, match team selector and tournaments overseer, has always done a lot behind the scenes, especially in helping on match days – and particularly did so this year.

Hilary Doughton was presented with a bouquet of flowers in appreciation for organising the dinner, and she thanked those who had supported her.  Alan Dell was given a round of applause in appreciation of his fine job as master of ceremonies for the evening.

Not forgetting chairman Graham Sinclair, our bowling poet, who entertained with readings of two of his war poems.
