Our Pairs League competition day was held on Sunday, Oct 11 in fine weather, when this year 10 teams took part in a two-division round robin contest, with the top team from each battling it out in the final to decide the champions.
Heading Group 1 were last year’s champions Ivan Catchpole & Sean Langford who faced Group 2 winners Dave Bevan & Martin Wilson in the final and they all delivered some good bowling for an entertaining match.
It was not to be a repeat this time for the holders as Martin Wilson, who was
runner-up last year, gained some payback with new partner Dave Bevan to take the title with a 7-3 victory in the 6-end final.
Dave & Martin took an early lead and moved on to dominate at 5-1 after four ends with some neat bowling. Ivan & Sean fought bac
k to move within two shots after
the penultimate end to make it a dramatic final end.
It was Dave & Martin, however, who saw off the challenge and so claimed this year’s Pairs League title.
